Ashley Jang

Qualifications: 

Ashley has completed her Master of Education (TESOL) with Merit degree at the University of Sydney. Her MEd dissertation was on “An examination of Korean migrants’ English article use and learning difficulty in Australia” which is the study focuses on the aspects of article usage that Korean ESL learners find difficult/easy to use and learn. It also investigated the Korean learners’ perception of difficulties in English articles as well. Her mixed method research has successfully suggested valuable methodological and pedagogical implications in second language teaching.  She also has Bachelor of Business Administration/ English Education degrees.

Experience:

Ashley is a highly qualified teacher who possesses a secondary teacher (Commerce and English)’s license issued from Department of Education, Korea. Prior to moving to Australia, she worked as a tutor and an educational content developer at Hankook University of Foreign Studies (Oedae Language Centre) and YBM Education Korea. Moreover, she has worked as an associate instructor in business English and an educational consultant in Seoul for several years. She taught language and business studies to employees working in bank, tele-communication companies, accounting firms and stock companies including PwC, POSCO, Hana Bank, Hyundai-Kia motors and SK Tele-communications.

She is continuing her careers in an educational sector in Australia. She worked as a school counsellor/ welfare coordinator at Evolution Hospitality Institute for 2years and she is currently working as a Korean language teacher and a corporate trainer in Sydney.

Ashley facilitates our Korean learners with her enthusiasm, confidence and excellence in teaching which come from her extensive teaching experiences. She adapts various teaching materials which are blended with cultural aspects such as K-pop, K-drama and YouTube. She then combines them with her own teaching skills and materials. She truly loves to teach her Korean classes and has passionate, professional and friendly manners to lead enjoyable and worthwhile classes. Her classes are always filled with happiness, excitement and satisfaction.

Jiyoon Lee

Qualifications: 

Jiyoon has a Master Degree in French Literature and a Certificate in  TESOL.

Experience:

Jiyoon Lee has been teaching Korean Literature to Korean students at Korean Institute, Seoul and teaching French at Sungsim Girl’s High School. She also worked as an editor for Catholic University of South Korea. From 2009, Jiyoon Lee is the corporate trainer of Korean Language for Sydney Language Solutions

Lily Woo

Qualifications:

Lily Woo holds a Master of Commerce from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Public Administration. She also holds a TESOL Certificate IV.

Experience:

Lily is a native Korean teacher who has been passionate about teaching, communicating and building strong relationships as well as developing teaching curriculum and activities. She has teaching experiences with students of various levels she has helped develop language abilities by coaching and providing individual assistance. Her teaching style focuses on enjoyable interactive classes that enhance basic and practical Korean conversation and grammar.

Luna Ji

Qualifications:

Luna has completed her Master of Education in TESOL at Sydney University, and holds a TESOL certificate from Georgetown University.  She also has a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and a State-certificate of English for Intetnational Business.

Experience:

Luna is a native Korean teacher with a deep background in all facets of language teaching, as well as development of teaching materials, activities, and curriculum. She has more than 7-years of teaching experience in both English and Korean, teaching students of different ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Her diverse working experience helps her to relate to students from various backgrounds and successfully match teaching delivery to student needs.

Luna’s facilitation of Korean is practical and moulded around learners in each group. Luna draws on individual strengths within a group to support learners to achieve both personal and corporate excellence. Her teaching style focuses on fun, interactive classes which draw on the varied experiences of each student group. Engaging discussion oriented classes, combined with specially designed teaching activities, support students in learning both underlying grammartical theory and practical application.  Her strength is to create a relaxed, student centered environment in the classroom that provides learners with the best possible opportunity to develop their language skills.  She is highly motivated, and has the ability to motivate students through the use of a variety of teaching materials, techniques and activities.

Sarah Yong

Qualifications:
Sarah Yong finished a Master of Education (TESOL) and Graduate of Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (FEFL) at the University of Sydney. She completed a bachelor of Home Economics in Korea.

Teaching Experience:
Sarah has two years’ experience as an English teacher in the IELTS School, Korea before she migrated to Australia. She has extensive experience in teaching English (IELTS) for adults and Korean for primary and high school students as a tutor. She has been currently teaching TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) to Korean migrants high school students. She is always willing to share her teaching experience with her students and combine Korean and Korean culture in the classroom.

Somi Hwang

Qualifications:
Somi Hwang has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare. She is now currently doing her master in education at University of Sydney. Somi also has a TESOL certification from New Zealand Qualification Authority.

Teaching Experience:
Somi has an extensive experience as an English teacher in Sung-Mon Academy in Masan, Korea. She also attended a lot of English courses in different countries, making her familiar to different context of English. As a Korean teacher, Somi is very enthusiastic and patient. With her dedication and enthusiasm, she can fully support Korean students of Sydney Language Solutions in their learning.

Yuri Lee

Qualifications:

Yuri has Bachelor’s degree in English and Education. Also she completed TESOL course with Anaheim University U.S.A. to improve her instructional method. She obtained Korean national teaching license, which certifies that she could work at public schools in Korea.

Teaching Experience:

Yuri has an extensive teaching experience. Her students varied from preschooler to businessmen, from beginner level to advanced one, and from Koreans to foreigners with different cultural background. She definitely loves and feels proud to teach because she thinks learning new languages is one of the most exciting things in life. She also learned 5 different languages such as Chinese, Japanese, French, Russian and Spanish, hence she understands well what kind of trouble they would face when studying languages. She is very happy to assist you guys so don’t hesitate to ask for help at any time.

Sydney Language Solutions – Korean Book List

I am interested in learning Korean but I prefer to learn conversation only. Is this what I should expect from the Korean course in SLS?

We teach languages based on the conversation and it’s our ultimate goal of each course. However, for effective conversation, we integrate 4 language components (I. e. Listening, speaking, reading and writing) in Korean teaching

When will I start to learn how to Read & Write in Korean?

Unlike some other Asian languages, Korean has its unique and scientific systems in terms of phonology and morphology. So it’s not very demanding to read and write. We teach how to read and write from the initial week of beginners 1.

1. Fast and Fun Korean 1: Designed with the short-term learner of Korean in mind, “Fast & Fun Korean for Short-Term Learners” is a 3-volume quick mastery textbook series that introduces everyday vocabulary and concrete situational dialogues practical for living in Korea.

2. Fast and Fun Korean 2: Warming Up, in which vocabulary and expressions used in real situations are introduced, Pattern Practice, in which each unit’s key expressions are introduced.

3. Active Korean 1: ACTIVE KOREAN series developed by the Language Education Institute of Seoul National University, help learners develop their communicative skills in Korean in effective ways within a short period of time

4. Active Korean 2: ACTIVE KOREAN series developed by the Language Education Institute of Seoul National University, help learners develop their communicative skills in Korean in effective ways within a short period of time.

5. Pathfinder 2: Pathfinder in Korean II was intended and designed for adults who wish to study Korean as a foreign language. Integrating the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, this book constitutes a second step of the beginners’ level and consists of 15 units.

6. Pathfinder 3: Pathfinder in Korean consists of three texts and supplemental materials for beginning to intermediate students who wish to study Korean as a foreign language. Integrating the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, Pathfinder in Korean IIIconsists of 15 units. Each unit introduces a Reading and Writing section, four sections of Activities, two sections of Tasks, and a Language and Ideas section.

7. Read and Speak Korean (This book is useful for Korean Beginner 2, there are many game cards and activities, which are very facilitating to learning a new language)

8. Korean in a Flash – vol.1 (This set of 448 flashcards is very useful for reviewing and expand vocabulary in Korean language. It is suitable for Beginner and Preintermediate level)

9. Your first 100 words in Korean (This book has a lot of activities and exercises to help learners at Beginner Level to memorise and review their first 100 words in Korean)
