Teacher: Suzan Dilara Tokac
Suzan has her BA degree in English Language Teaching, next to learning how to teach
languages she also received education on the characteristics of Turkish language (in terms of
phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics) in English. Afterwards, she changed career
slightly and received her Master of Science degree in Speech and Language Pathology and
currently, she is a Ph.D. candidate at the Macquarie University, conducting experiments on
the field of Neurolinguistics. She is also a volunteer at a youth organization based in Europe
for 10 years, as a part of which she received and provided trainings on various topics, such as
conflict management, leadership, human rights, equality, sustainability, language and cultural
awareness.
Experience:
She has experience in teaching English to various age groups (ranging from 3 to 50 years
old), for different purposes (daily communication, preparation for exams, grammar,
vocabulary, etc.). She has translating experience; from English to Turkish. As a Speech and
Language Therapist, she provided 300+ hours of therapy to people in need. She coordinated
many international projects and traveled all around the world. She is currently a part of an
international team, which is adapting a standardized language test for people with aphasia (a
language impairment often caused by stroke) into the Turkish language. Suzan has a great
passion for languages (she has been learning German, Italian and Dutch) and teaching. She
thinks teaching is more than ‘sharing her own knowledge’; it is also becoming a better
version of herself and for students.
