When will I have an individual assessment?
After you have enrolled in the course, the teacher will conduct an assessment of your pronunciation by listening to you give a five-minute speech. You need to submit this five-minute speech by audio file immediately after you enrol and payment for the course has been processed. The feedback will be provided duringyour first lesson with 10 minutes allocated for each student.
What happens in an individual assessment?
The teacher will assess your pronunciation, intonation and any problematic sounds that you may have. The trainer will explain to you the errors you have in your pronunciation as a result of your native language and highlight the sounds that you need to pay particular attention to during the course.
If I don’t want to enrol into the course, can I still have an assessment?
If you don’t want to pay for the course, you can still book an individual assessment with the teacher to ascertain your current level. The assessment costs $70 and includes a 40-minute assessment and the audio file of the teacher’s feedback about your pronunciation.
Do I need to have an assessment if I take a group class (4-6 students)?
If you enrol in the course, you do not need to pay for the individual assessment but we strongly recommend that you do consider undertaking the assessment to ascertain your level.
What happens in each class?
After the analysis of any pronunciation problems, the trainer will guide you through all the sound systems of the English language (consonants, vowels, stress and intonation) and highlight the differences between it and your native language. Constant attention will be given to your performance so you can be alerted to what sounds you are most likely to make errors in and how you can fix these.
You will be required to constantly pronounce a lot of words/sequences (usually relating to job interviews or meeting scenarios) so the trainer can focus on improving your pronunciation. At the end of every class, you are required to record approximately three files of fiveminutes reading in which your pronunciation will be checked and commented on by the trainer. The feedback/report will be given to you in the next class you attend.
You are also required to carry out role-playing with your classmates so they can check the clarity of your speech. There will also be five minutes of public speaking at the end of the class.
Can the class benefit me if my classmates speak different languages to me?
As the class only has 4-6 students, you have the maximum chance to practice and focus on your problematic sounds. As the trainer already knows the typical problematic sounds of your native language, it is not a problem for them to identify these sounds for you or your classmates, even if they use a different language. Learning with a classmate who has a different language may also help you to become more aware of other pronunciation errors and improve your listening comprehension when talking with people from other countries, aside from English native speakers.
How can I have the best result out of the course?
You should focus on all of the sounds pointed out by your instructor as the problematic sounds that come as a result of your mother tongue.
Be aware of how these sounds are pronounced by native-speaking trainers, try to record their speaking in class and imitate them to achieve the best results. Record your pronunciation after each class, listen attentively and see whether you have progressed compared to your audio recording of your pronunciation before you joined the class.
Can I record my pronunciation in each class?
Yes, you can bring your own recorder and record your own pronunciation, but you should make this clear to your classmates and trainer. Please be aware that you cannot publish any recording of teachers and other classmates without permission.
Will you advise me on which course to take?
As this is a pronunciation course, the class will focus on helping you with pronouncing the sounds, and not focus on grammar or vocabulary. Therefore, you can join the class if you are at an intermediate level and your listening skill is good enough to understand the trainer’s instruction.
The course is set up as standard for an average student, with sufficient effort and about 20-hours in-class and 20-hours self-study time to improve pronunciation. However, depending on how serious your problems are with yourpronunciation, you may need to take more time to improve your speaking.
After your submit the initial audio file, the teacher will give you feedback on how much time she thinks you need to spend on improving your skill. She will also suggest whether this intensive course will be enough or if you may need extra tuition outside of class.
How do I book my class?
