Course description

SLS offers a 6-week (weekend) Mandarin for Beginners Intensive Course for those looking to learn basic conversational Indonesian in a short time frame. Available at our convenient Sydney CBD location during weeknights or weekends, our course is ideal for those who work during the week. All language courses come with free training materials and you’ll enjoy our small class sizes for a great interactive learning experience. Upon completion, you’ll also receive a Certificate of Participation.

Who is this course for?

For learners who have no knowledge of the language and want to know simple words and phrases for a short visit to China.

For learners who have no knowledge of the language and want to begin a course of study to be able to communicate with a Mandarin speaker/partner or friend.

Expected Outcome:

At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the Pinyin system. They will also be able to say the following information in Mandarin: greetings, telling numbers, time, days of week, nationality and telephone number. Students will also be able to order Chinese food at Chinese restaurants and ask for location.

Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Chinese Studies from the University of Sydney.
Master of Education degree from the University of Melbourne.
As a native speaker of both Mandarin and Cantonese, I am equipped to teach these languages to learners of all ages and proficiency levels.

Work Experience:
With two years of teaching experience and one year of teaching in NSW secondary schools, I am fully qualified and accredited by the NSW Department of Education. I am adept at designing and delivering engaging lessons that address the diverse learning needs of students. I have a thorough knowledge of the NSW syllabus, including its structure, objectives, and outcomes, which I adapt to meet both adolescent and adult learners' needs. My lessons are well-organised and personalised, and complex knowledge is broken down to make it accessible for all students. I create a supportive, engaging classroom atmosphere that fosters students' interests.

I have been studying and living in 8 different countries during the past two decades. The more I travel, the more I am fascinated by distinct languages and cultures. Since I settled down in Sydney 5 years ago, I chose teaching as my career. I have been teaching children and adults Cantonese and Mandarin. I combined my language teaching with cultural lessons, as well as traditional food tasting. I believe a bonding with the culture would provide long lasting motivation for the students to learn the language.

As a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker, I can read and write traditional and simplified Chinese. I have been teaching in community language schools and Sydney Language Solution for 4 years. I am currently working on my Master of Teaching in Macquarie University.

I have a special interest in Chinese/Cantonese history and culture. Having lived in eight different countries in the world, I have in-depth intercultural knowledge. The more I see the world, the more I see in my own culture. You can always learn the words and expressions through a comparative cultural lens in my class.

My personal interests are cooking and gardening. It is always fascinating to see how we name food and plants and use them as metaphors in Chinese. My favorite thing to do in class is sharing traditional Cantonese dessert with my students!

I am passionate about teaching languages and constantly seek innovative approaches to showcase the beauty of the Russian language and culture. By integrating knowledge of neuroscience and coaching techniques, I deliver effective sessions that enhance and streamline the language learning process.
