Course description

SLS offers a 16-hour Indonesian Beginner 1 Course for those who wish to learn basic conversational Indonesian for the first time. Available at our convenient Sydney CBD location during weeknights or weekends, our course is ideal for those who work during the week. All language courses come with free training materials and you’ll enjoy our small class sizes for a great interactive learning experience. Upon completion, you’ll also receive a Certificate of Participation.

Who should take this course?

The level would suit a traveller or a complete beginner who has no prior knowledge of the language. The student will start on all the basic fluency and proficiency skills – speaking, reading, listening and writing . The course aims provide the student with enough vocabulary and basic grammar rules to communicate with confidence in simple real life situations.

Weekly Content:

Week 1: Pronunciation & Basic Greetings
Week 2: Introducing yourself & Others
Week 3: Number
Week 4: Family and Addressing someone politely
Week 5: Occupation & Mid-Revision
Week 6: Telling the time – Dates – Asking about time
Week 7: Talking about what you want and need, making simple sentences
Week 8: Making simple questions, talking about what you like

Introduce themselves
Understand Indonesian pronunciation
Use expressions and phrases for basic communication
Order Indonesian food
Ask for information and directions
Ask for prices for basic shopping
Ask for the time
Express means of transport in Indonesia
Give directions when using public transport
Master cardinal numbers and ordinal numbers,
Count numbers and money and understand expressions about time and money
Have very basic Indonesian conversations, saying thank you and sorry

No class to suit you? Please JOIN the waiting list and we’ll notify you when a new class is scheduled or if a place becomes available.

Please Note:

The enrollment fee must be paid at least one week in advance of the course commencement date.
All classes need a minimum of 5 students to go ahead.
If your course does not have enough students, it will be cancelled and you will be informed via SMS or email two days before the starting date. Alternatively, we may re-schedule the course to get more enrollment or still offer the course for 4 students with a slightly higher tuition fee with your agreement.

Teacher: Suri Aisyah

Suri is a passionate and experienced teacher with a background in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). She has worked with students of all ages and proficiency levels, creating engaging and dynamic learning environments. Suri holds a Bachelor of Education in English, graduating as the top student from the University of Bengkulu, Indonesia. In 2020, she was selected as the Indonesian Language Ambassador, recognizing her dedication to language and cultural promotion. During her undergraduate studies, she taught Indonesian and English, including at the medical faculty of a university in Indonesia. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Applied Linguistics at the University of New South Wales, funded by an Indonesian Government Scholarship. Her professional experience includes roles as an IELTS and TOEFL tutor, scholarship mentor, and event planner. Suri has taught at institutions such as University of Bengkulu, English First Kids and Teens, Studyfirst.id, and APRA College, delivering courses tailored to meet the needs of her students and fostering their language acquisition.

Teacher: Lana Males

I am a native Russian speaker with a passion for teaching and helping students develop their language skills.

With more than 11 years of experience in education, I specialize in teaching Russian to native and non-native speakers of all levels, from beginners to advanced learners.

My teaching approach combines traditional methods with modern, interactive techniques, making language learning both effective and enjoyable.

I focus not only on grammar and vocabulary but also on helping students gain confidence in conversational Russian, understanding cultural nuances, and improving their reading and writing skills.

I hold a degree in linguistics and have taught students from various backgrounds, tailoring lessons to meet individual needs and goals. Whether you’re learning Russian for travel, business, or personal enrichment, I am committed to guiding you through every step of your language journey.

I'm Amanda and I'm from Brazil. I have been interested in languages and teaching since my early years. When I was 15 I started teaching all subjects to my neighbors. That was my first experience as a teacher. Always passionate about languages, I went to UFMG (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais) and studied literature, grammar, phonetics, and culture.
