I am thinking about joining the Hindi course. Will I be able to learn the dialects as well?
We teach the official form of Hindi: Modern Standard Hindi. Although dialects will also be discussed in the class, our focus is in teaching you the Standard Hindi first to make sure that you have a strong foundation in the language.
Knowing the dialects without understanding the Standard version of the language will create some gaps in your language capacity that might not be beneficial for your communication. However our teachers will be more than happy to explain to you if you have a particular interest in some of the dialects.
I heard that English is an official language of India. Does this mean I don’t need to learn Hindi if I plan to go there?
Although English is one of the official languages in India, mainly used for government purposes, it is not the only official language in India. Access to English might differ depending on the places that you plan to travel to. Having known basic Hindi will certainly help you in ensuring that there will be less problem in communicating when you travel to India.
