Course description

SLS offers a 16-hour Mandarin Beginner/ Travelers Course for those who wish to learn basic conversational Mandarin for the first time. Available at our convenient Sydney CBD location during weeknights or weekends, our course is ideal for those who work full time. All language courses come with free training materials and you’ll enjoy our small class sizes for a great interactive learning experience. Upon completion, you’ll also receive a Certificate of Participation.

Who is this course for?

Mandarin Beginner 1 Students who have no knowledge of the language and want to know simple words and phrases for a short visit to China.

For learners who have no knowledge of the language and want to begin a course of study to be able to communicate with a Mandarin speaker/partner or friend.

Expected Outcome:

At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the Pinyin system. They will also be able to say the following information in Mandarin: greetings, telling numbers, time, days of week, nationality and telephone number. Students will also be able to order Chinese food at Chinese restaurants and ask for location.

No class to suit you? Please JOIN the waiting list and we’ll notify you when a new class is scheduled or if a place becomes available.

Please Note:

The enrolment fee must be paid at least one week in advance of the course commencement date.
All classes need a minimum of 5 students to go ahead.
If your course does not have enough students, it will be cancelled and you will be informed via SMS or email two days before the starting date. Alternatively, we may re-schedule the course to get more enrolment or still offer the course for 4 students with a slightly higher tuition fee with your agreement.
If the course is cancelled due to low Enrolment, you will automatically receive 10% off next time when you enrol again into the same course.

Teacher: MIN HUA LIM

Min has been studying and living in 8 different countries during the past two decades. The more she travels, the more she is fascinated by distinct languages and cultures. Since she settled down in Sydney 5 years ago, she has choosen teaching as her career. She has been teaching children and adults Cantonese and Mandarin. She combined her language teaching with cultural lessons, as well as traditional food tasting. She believes a bonding with the culture would provide long lasting motivation for the students to learn the language.

Teacher: Li Wen Chen

Li-Wen fluently speak 5 languages, namely English, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Modern Languages and an Honours Degree in Women's Studies and Sociology from Macquarie University.

Teacher: Cecilia Deng

Qualification:
Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Chinese Studies from the University of Sydney.
Master of Education degree from the University of Melbourne.
As a native speaker of both Mandarin and Cantonese, I am equipped to teach these languages to learners of all ages and proficiency levels.

Work Experience:
With two years of teaching experience and one year of teaching in NSW secondary schools, I am fully qualified and accredited by the NSW Department of Education. I am adept at designing and delivering engaging lessons that address the diverse learning needs of students. I have a thorough knowledge of the NSW syllabus, including its structure, objectives, and outcomes, which I adapt to meet both adolescent and adult learners' needs. My lessons are well-organised and personalised, and complex knowledge is broken down to make it accessible for all students. I create a supportive, engaging classroom atmosphere that fosters students' interests..
