Qualifications:
Gaining my BAs in Business English & Teaching English as a 2 nd Language in Japan, I was able to enjoy my start in teaching prior to graduation & continued for 3 years. I am also a qualified teacher in calligraphy, tea ceremony, ikebana, kimono dressing & traditional Japanese music (Kouta).
Work Experience:
Locally, I’ve been teaching Japanese for 15 years, from year 2 to professionals needing business & travel specific language, including airline staff.
Internationally, I’d gained my Certificate as a Local & International Tour Guide & had worked for 15 years prior to that. I have coordinated placement of Japanese language teachers into Australian schools for 4 years.
I teach in Japanese schools, Community Colleges & TAFE. Returning to Japan twice yearly, I keep up to date socially, culturally & with my language.
Toshiko Jackson
Qualifications: 
M.A. in Asian Studies that includes Advanced Studies for teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language, Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics, Graduate Diploma in Japanese Applied Linguistics, Diploma in Education and BA in Arts. (All postgraduate degrees are from Monash University.) She has a publication in “Australia Language Matters”, ANU, on teaching methods in Japanese. Her M.A. thesis (32,000 words) was on Japanese corporate management and its car manufacturers’ overseas activities. It earned H.D. at Monash University.
Work Experience:
Toshiko Jackson has been teaching Japanese language and culture in Australia for 26 years. She has taught in schools, coaching colleges, TAFEs, universities and corporate courses in Sydney and Melbourne in part time, full time and casual roles. Also, Toshiko has taught all Stages of HSC, Business Japanese for 4 Japanese multi-nationals’ training courses, the University of Sydney and RMIT. She taught for the Japanese Proficiency Tests, Levels 1 to 4. She was the Depart Coordinator of L.O.T.E. and Japanese Course Coordinator for the Certificate IV at Language Centre, Holmesglen Institute of TAFE, Melbourne for 7 years until the end of 2000. Additionally she was an interpreter and worked for translation in Melbourne for a few years. She migrated from Japan to Australia 31 years ago.

Who should take this course?
The level would suit a traveller or a complete beginner who has no prior knowledge of the language. The student will start on all the basic fluency and proficiency skills : speaking, reading, listening and writing . Preparation Workshop for HSC Japanese Beginners
The HSC course provides complete preparation for the HSC in Japanese and covers the skills and knowledge required in the Stage 6 syllabus for the HSC examination.
We use all assessment tasks supported by the Board of Studies and past HSC exam papers including listening CDs in our lessons to intensively support students to prepare for HSC exams.
We are also in regular contact with high school teachers, which allows us to keep up to date with any changes in curricula and have a source of valuable and current teaching materials.
Entry level: This course is designed for the students who will sit HSC Japanese Beginners. (If we get inquiry for HSC Japanese Continuers, we should open a separate class)

Preparation for Japanese Language Proficiency Test - Level 2
The course reviews the most frequently occurring grammar and vocabulary from the Level 2 Test and develops learners’ abilities in vocabulary, grammar and listening comprehension skill. The course will also provide students with learning strategies to do the JPLT Level 2 Test.

Preparation for The 42nd Japanese Language Speech Contest
Course Duration: 3 hours
Course Fee: $60 (for class of 3 student) or $45 per hour for one-to one coaching

This course provides a solid preparation for the Japanese Speech Contest. Through the course the participants will improve their skills to write a good speech in Japanese and present it in a fluent and confident manner.
Those who are not intending to participate in the contest, but would like to be a good speaker of Japanese are also encouraged to enrol.
The aim of the contest is to encourage learners who are studying Japanese to showcase their Language skills in a challenging context
All contestants will receive a participation certificate. Prizes will be awarded in each division. The NSW state Japanese Speech Contest will be held on Saturday 18th September at the Macquarie Japanese Studies Centre at Macquarie University.

The winners of the NSW contest will proceed to the National Final on Saturday 16th October.
The speech contest (State/National) is conducted under the following divisions.

Subject of Speech:
The subject, content and form of the speeches are left open to each contestant. Entrants who
have competed in previous contests may not use the same speech (this includes title andcontent) presented in previous years.

High School Senior Division: 2.5 - 3 minutes
Open Beginner Division: 2.5 - 3 minutes
Open Division: 4.5 - 5 minutes
Background Speaker Division 4.5 - 5 minutes
